How to Prepare Oha Soup Recipe

Soups definitely going to make the list of Nigerian popular Soups Ofe Ora (as the people of Igbo calls it) is one of the most delicious soups that is popularly made and eaten by the people of Igbo.

The Igbos are one of the popular ethnic groups in Nigeria.

This soup is made with the leaves of a tree called oha. Ora soup is often prepared using coco yam, or ofor, or achi as the thickene. This oha Soup can be served and eaten with all kinds of swallows of your choice, like Eba, fufu, pounded yam, Semo, etc.

The ingredients you will be needing to prepare oha Soup

  1. Assorted meats or Goat Meat
  2. smoked pomo
  3. Oha Leaves
  4. Coco yam for thickener or ofor
  5. Ogiri
  6. palm oil
  7. Smoked cat fish
  8. Stock fish
  9. Smoked prawns
  10. yellow scent pepper
  11. Ata rodo
  12. Onions
  13. blended crayfish
  14. seasoning cube to taste
  15. salt to taste.

Preparation for the ingredients

  • Wash your Assorted meats and season it with seasoning cube and salt to taste, add your diced onions and set on fire to cook.
  • Wash your smoked pomo, and cut into the size you like, once the meats are almost ready then you add the smoked pomo for it to cook together.
  • Once it’s ready, turn off the fire and set aside
  • wash your coco yam and pour into a clean pot and set it on fire, Once it’s done, peel it and pound it and set aside
  • wash your oha leaves and cut it and set aside
  • wash your smoked cat fish and debone it and set aside
  • blend your peppers, and onion together and set aside
  • Wash your smoked prawns and set aside
  • Blend your crayfish and set aside
  • wash your stock fish and soke it with hot water and add some salt and set aside. Once you are done with all this preparations, then you are ready to start cooking.

Method on How to Prepare oha Soup

  • Carry the pot that has the asserted meats and smoked pomo, and set them on fire
  • Add some water according to how you want your soup to be plenty, also look at your thickener so that you will not end up with watery soup
  • Once it’s starts to boil, add your ogiri
  • Add your blended pepper and onions
  • Add your palm oil
  • Add your smoked prawns
  • Add your smoked cat fish
  • Add your stock fish
  • Add your Pounded coco yam
  • Then cover it to boil
  • pour your blended crayfish
  • Add your seasoning cube to taste
  • Add your salt to taste
  • Add your Oha leaves
  • Allow it to boil for a minute and turn off the fire. Some times when you add the thickene, it’s will be come very thickene, you can add water.
