How to Prepare Ogbono soup

Ogbono Soup is a Nigerian popular Soup prepared and eaten by the Igbos, Yorubas, Calabas, etc it’s a healthy soup and full of nutrients. This soup can be served with different kinds of swallows, like Eba, Amala, Semo, Pounded yam, etc. It’s so yummyscious that any time am eating it with my Semo swallow, I don’t usually hear when someone is knocking on my door lol 😅 It’s one of my husband’s favorite Soups, any time I make it everyone in the house will start rejoicing. this soup is a a good source of protein, healthy fatty acids, iron, calcium, and a range of other minerals. The best part is that you can go all out on this one, you can add an Assorted meats, tripe, chicken ,seafood , vegetables and the list goes on and on. And another best part is that, you can use any thing you have and it’s will come out perfectly. And it’s very easy to make.

The ingredients you will be needing for this soup

  1. 1 Cup of ogbono
  2. 1 medium size of stock fish head
  3. 1 Big size of dry cat fish
  4. Asserted meats, or goat meat
  5. 1 Big size of smoked pomo
  6. 1 cup of smoked prawns
  7. 1 cop spoon of palm oil
  8. 1 cop of crayfish powder
  9. 2 medium size of onions
  10. 5 Yellow scent pepper
  11. 4 Ata rodo ( Scotch bonnet pepper)
  12. Seasoning cube to
  13. Salt to taste
  14. Ugwu leave (pumpkinleave)or Uziza leaves

Preparation of the ingredients

  • Grind your ogbono seed and set aside
  • Wash your Assorted meats and season it with seasoning cube and salt to taste and add some diced onions and put it on fire
  • Cover it to cook
  • Wash your smoked pomo and cut into your desired size
  • Once the meats are almost done, add the smoked pomo and cook till tender
  • Once it’s ready, set aside
  • Blend your peppers and onions together and set aside
  • Blend your crayfish and set aside
  • wash your ugwu leave and slice it and set aside
  • Wash your dry cat fish and debone it and set aside
  • Wash your smoked prawns and set aside
  • Soak your stock fish down with hot water and add some salt to it and set aside
  • If the blended ogbono has lumps, get a clean pot on fire
  • Add some paml oil
  • once it’s a bit hot add your ogbono to dissolve it and set aside.
  • Once all the ingredients are prepared, then the cooking can start.

Method on How to Prepare Ogbono Soup

  • Pot back on fire the pot of Assorted meats and pomo
  • Add your soaked stock fish
  • Add your dry cat fish
  • Add your blended peppers and onions
  • Add some water
  • Add your palm oil and cover it to boil
  • Once it’s boiled, add your smoked prawns
  • Add your crayfish powder, and mix it well
  • Allow it to boil for a minute
  • Pour your ogbono and stir it very well and allow to boil
  • Add seasoning cube to taste
  • Add salt to taste
  • Add your ugwu leave and allow it to boil a bit then turn off the fire. Your Ogbono Soup is ready to be served with any desired swallow. Enjoy
